The flat-topped icon
The mountain that defines the city — hike its cliffs, ride the cableway or simply watch the tablecloth of cloud roll in.

Overview
Rising directly behind the city centre, Table Mountain is part of Table Mountain National Park and is the anchor of every Cape Town view. Its long, level plateau is visible from almost everywhere in the City Bowl.
There are two ways up: on foot, via routes such as Platteklip Gorge, or by the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, which runs separately and is weather-dependent. The summit rewards either with views across the Atlantic, the Cape Flats and the peninsula.

A separate, ticketed attraction for those who prefer to skip the climb. Check its operating status on the day.
The mountain is part of the Cape Floral Region, rich in plants found nowhere else.
